theCrew
3Steps (»Three Steps Ahead«) are the three contemporary graffiti artists Kai Krieger alias SiveOne, Uwe Krieger alias Doc Nova and Joachim Pitt alias Mr. Flash from Giessen, which are artistically active together since 1998. Growing up in Giessen, the three went to school together and quickly discovered their passion for painting and large-size compositions. It first began as a creative leisure activity, but turned more and more into precise forms and structures and developed to an essential element of their life.
In their collective works the numerous interests and preferences of the three artists melt to one creation. In this part the detailed and coordinated graffiti writings, so-called styles, of the twins Kai and Uwe interact with the objective and figurative motives.
Their actual mural-art contains the "Style Victim Girls" in an urban city environment. In these paintings colorful beauty meets rough architecture, hard edges and lines hit soft contours and facets, Pop-Art and Photorealism merge with contemporary graffiti art.
On the other hand their early paintings and some new works show cultural and political images or heroic characters and daily heroes. These range from the antiquity to classical and modern comic characters and finally to figures from computer games of the 80s, which have a great impact on the understanding of graphic, design and animations of three artists. These works are in parts a homage to the comic-art and the history of literature and film.
